Meet the Administrator of the Division

Thomas F. Ahern

Thomas F. Ahern was appointed to a six-year term as Administrator of the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers commencing in May 1997, and subsequently reappointed to six-year terms in March 2003 and May 2009.

Previously, Mr. Ahern was employed for nearly 25 years by Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic), most recently as Director of Public Affairs. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island as well as a Masters of Business Administration from Providence College.

He is a member of the board of directors for a number of civic organizations, including R.I. E-911 Advisory Commission, J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, R.I. Chapter of the American Heart Association, Town of East Greenwich Personnel Board and Justice Assistance. Mr. Ahern also is Vice-Chairman of the Greenwood Credit Union and a member of the R.I. Civil Preparedness Commission, the East Greenwich Fireman's Association and the Governor's Commission on Taxation.
